5 Steps to Engage Your Event Audiences

The Word on the Street team have had a brainstorm and has chosen to share some of their tips to help you engage your event audiences and create an event legacy.

Stale meetings and conferences, sitting through PowerPoint presentations and looking at your watch wondering when you can get that next caffeine fix. Before you know it you are getting the shakes, you are bloated from eating too much, and have downed a few drinks at the end of the day. We have all been to conferences, events, and presentations which we wish we hadn’t, life is too short!

Having seen and worked at hundreds of events across the UK and London, the Word on the Street team have picked their 5 best tips to help you get the most out of your audience.

1) Event Objectives

At Word on the Street, we believe it is imperative to think about the end game and what you want to achieve.

So, set a small number of key realistic objectives which you want to accomplish. Always keep your objectives in the back of your mind and continue to check back to them.
When making key decisions along the way be sure you are still on the right track and making the choices that achieve your ultimate goals.

2) Communications

Think about how you communicate with your audience at every stage. Remember that not everyone likes to engage in the same way and make sure you use multiple channels whether it is post, e-mail, or even an event app.
Speaking of apps, don’t be scared of technology. An event mobile app is an effective channel for the streamlined delivery of engaging and clear communications. Therefore, incorporating new ideas such as Slido, can help get people more actively involved with the content and the overall event.

3) Health & Wellbeing

People are taking much better care of themselves and you should do the same. Not everyone wants a fried breakfast or carb overload at lunch. So, offer more choice and help steer your attendees to make healthier options.
And why not have well-being activities around the content to allow guests to unwind: yoga in the park, a run, or a walking tour of the city.

It is a win-win scenario; everyone will feel brighter and alert which means they will take more away from the actual content of your event.

4) Event Set Up

Make sure guests take advantage of everything you have organised and adapt your layout and style to connect with everyone.

Interactive food and drink ideas can help make the event more memorable and guests to network with more people.
Build the company culture or event message into the offering with healthy choices, reducing wastage or single-use plastics.

Gone are the days of lining up seats or sitting in a stale auditorium. Adapt your set up to the different personalities you are expecting.
Bean bags can help a younger audience feel more at ease and brainstorm better. Different styles and tiers of seating can help everyone feel more comfortable.

5) Culture

Don’t stop at your events, make it company culture, make a legacy and inspire your colleagues to much greater levels. The returns and benefits can be endless!

The ultimate positive, not only are audiences more engaged with your message but they will buy further into it and go the extra mile! Get in touch and we can help you incorporate these ideas into your events and programmes.
