A Trip to the Most Idyllic Distillery in Scotland

Looking to organise an incentive trip to Scotland?

Think of Scotland and one of the first things to come to mind will be whisky (at least for our team if no one else). There are over 120 distilleries in Scotland. Each distillery is different and has its own history, quirky features, and stories!

If you want to surprise your guests with an exciting and interesting incentive trip, read this blog to find out more about the fascinating Scottish whisky production!

But first, in order to tell you more about our favourite Scottish distillery, we need to back track slightly and investigate why distilleries are located where they are.

The Whisky Regions

There are five defined regions that make up the landscape of Scotch whisky – Campbeltown, Highland, Islay, Lowland, and Speyside. Each region has its own unique characteristics made up of geographical boundaries laid down in law. Similar to the French wine regions, the soil and micro-climates are so unique, that they have an unmistakable ‘stamp’ on their product.

The Importance of Water

There are three main ingredients in whisky: malted barley, water, and yeast. Without a year-round supply of water, a distillery cannot function. Water is in fact involved in every process and not just diluting the spirit to the desired strength. Your standard tap water will not do the job. The flavours which the water picks up make all the difference, be it the heather and peat from the ground or the granite bedrock below.

Location

Glengoyne Distillery has a rather unique setting just above Glasgow, sitting in a stunning glen (narrow valley). The distillery sits on the south-western edge of the highlands however when set to mature in the casks this is done over the road in the Lowlands.

The water reaches the distillery via a 50 ft waterfall to the rear of the site and makes a tranquil and stunning setting. Upon leaving the distillery the water then keeps flowing to the famous Loch Lomond.

The licence to distil at the site dates back to 1833 although the whisky production goes back much further away from the eyes of the exciseman. It wasn’t till 1907 that they adopted the name Glengoyne. Since then, the distillery has continued to go from strength to strength ever since.

Glengoyne – The Most Idyllic Distillery in Scotland

There are so many contributing factors to the taste and quality of whisky.
There is however no doubt that the location and water source of Glengoyne Distillery make it a stunning setting and somewhere we love taking guests to. The excitement when they arrive and the “joy” following their tours and tastings never cease. Nor does Glengoyne disappoint or the magic disappears however many times we have the pleasure to revisit this amazing setting.

Engage your guests with a fascinating Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Whisky tasting, as they learn about the bold, complex flavours from the slowest still in Scotland, matured in only the finest casks.
